In memoriam Ernst Manske
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ernst Manske DL1PM on January 9th, 2004 at the age of 84 years. A short but
severe illness put an end to a life of professional fulfilment as an aircraft engineer, and to many years dedicated to amateur radio
with a particular devotion to high-speed morse telegraphy. Ernst was nr 14 among the early members of HSC founded in 1951. From 1968
to 2001 he held the office of Club Secretary.
For 55 years his callsign was frequently to be heard on the bands. So, Ernst was well-known world-wide and had friends in many countries.
Together with his wife Irmgard he often participated in the meetings of CW friends, and many of them enjoyed their hospitality in their
home at Seevetal. He also was a member of FOC, TOPS, AGCW, DIG, FMC and DARC and was awarded the latter's Pin of Honour. Having been
active to the end his call was first missed in the ZAP-traffic of the January bulletin.
Throughout the 32 years of his Secretariate - that is well over half of the HSC's existence - he proved a faithful and reliable servant
and administrator of our club. About half of our members' certificates can safely be supposed to carry his signature. For many years he
transmitted information and changes in HSC under the club call DKØHSC.
During his tenure of office and in cooperation with our former president Edgar Schnell DL6MK he was forced to head off attempts directed
against the principle ideas of our club and contrary to the will of its members. He played a substantial role in averting these attempts.
When about 3 years ago he conveyed his office into younger hands, Ernst was awarded the Golden HSC Pin of Honour by the assembly of
members. His name has become part of the HSC history and his memory will be held in honour.
Ernst was an enthusiastic radio amateur and a reliable friend, always ready to help, whose loss we sincerely regret. Our sympathy goes
to his family and intimates.

The HSC mournes the death of Ernst Manske, DL1PM (14). Ernst died January 9th, 2004 after suffering from
short serious illness.
Ernst served the high-speed telegraphy community over many decades, in particular from 1968 to 2001 as HSC Secretary.
Signing "HSC 14", Ernst was a member since the very first beginning in 1951. He was active on the bands up to last both
under his own call sign and in contests as OP of HSC club station DKØHSC. Ernst has done infinitely much for the
HSC. The HSC will retain a honorable memory to him.
